Effective weight loss plans are often overlooked because many people are looking for fast, easy ways to lose weight. The problem is that most of those rapid weight loss plans don’t work. In general, a rapid weight loss diet will cause you to lose muscle tone and water weight.

When you lose weight too fast your metabolism slows down and goes into starvation mode. When you return to normal eating you put weight on rapidly because your metabolism is still slow and you don’t burn fat as fast as you should. Losing muscle tone is important because muscle helps burn fat. A rapid weight loss diet then can be counter productive to your goal.

An effective weight loss plan is one that helps you lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. Let’s face it, you didn’t put weight on fast, why would you expect to lose it fast? You may want to, but is it healthy and does it make sense? In general the answer is no. Most doctors will tell you that losing weight too fast may result in yo-yo dieting because you’ll probably regain fast weight loss and have to diet again to lose it again.

To follow an effective weight loss plan you need to do your homework. You need to understand the calories it takes to lose weight at an appropriate rate. You need to understand portion sizes so that you know how much to eat at each meal. You need to understand how much exercise to do to assist in your weight loss plan. All of this is available on the internet if you just do your homework. You can develop an effective weight lossĀ  plan that will work for you.
